What’s in a Film Pitch Deck?

Filmmaking 101

One of the most common blank stares we receive is from filmmakers at a loss for including the key components in an investor deck. Many think they can skip the key component(s):
A) The ASK and
B) The ROI ( or how do I make my money back).

It is important to understand that as much as someone can love your idea and vision, they are immune to investing unless you can show a proven track record of creating commercially successful content or convince them of your differentiator that will drive a financial return.

A film pitch deck is a presentation tool that filmmakers use to pitch their ideas to potential investors, producers, studios, or collaborators. A good pitch deck should be concise, visually appealing, and informative, and should include the following elements:

Logline: A one-sentence summary of the film’s story that grabs the listener’s attention and gives them an idea of what the film is about.

Synopsis: A brief summary of the film’s plot that outlines the story and its main characters, themes, and conflicts.

Target Audience: A description of the film’s intended audience, including demographics, interests, and behaviors.

Characters: A description of the film’s main characters, including their motivations, conflicts, and relationships.

Visuals: Concept art, storyboards, or other visual representations of the film’s visual style, mood, and tone.

Budget: A breakdown of the film’s estimated budget, including production costs, marketing expenses, and any other relevant expenses.

Revenue Model: A description of the film’s potential revenue streams, such as box office sales, licensing, merchandising, and streaming.

Marketing Plan: A summary of the film’s marketing and distribution strategy, including promotional materials, social media, and press outreach.

Key Personnel: A list of the film’s key personnel, including the director, producer, writer, and any notable cast or crew members.

Competitive Analysis: An overview of similar films in the market, their performance, and how your film is unique or different.

The above elements are just a guideline and not an exhaustive list. The exact content and structure of a film pitch deck may vary depending on the filmmaker’s goals, the project’s scope and complexity, and the target audience.
